When teeth become badly decayed, it is common for them to have several fillings. A tooth with multiple fillings can lead to the tooth needing to be crowned. Eventually the tooth may undergo root canal therapy and that not be enough to save the tooth. Quarry Bend Dental has decades of experience perfecting our procedures used for single tooth or multiple teeth extractions.
If you do need a dental extraction, contact our office. We will need to take x-rays and determine the amount of damage the tooth has sustained. If the tooth cannot be saved, we will perform an dental extraction. A dental extraction is deemed the most invasive dental procedure as it is the removal of a tooth from the mouth.
Tooth extractions will require anesthesia to numb the area and to prevent patients from experiencing pain during the extraction. Once the area is numbed, we will then begin the extraction. An extraction will feel like having a lot of pressure on the jaw. The dentist will need to move the tooth from side to side and pull hard in order to effectively remove the tooth. The area will be examined and we will then send patients home for recovery.
Recovering from an extraction will take a few days or possibly a week. For the first 48 hours, we recommend patients rest to allow the body to start healing. The extraction site needs to be gently rinsed with warm water with salt. This rinse helps to keep the area clean, assisting in the healing process.
